Why Busoga?

Busoga is proposed as the model geography because of its population scale, MCH need, access challenges, existing infrastructure, partnerships and research environment.

Model geography

Start focused. Demonstrate impact. Learn. Strengthen. Expand.

The organization should not begin by claiming to serve all of Busoga. It should begin deeply in a small number of underserved communities.

Scale, variation and a learning environment.

Population scale

The 2024 Census recorded approximately 4.36 million people, providing a substantial population base for implementation and learning.

Health-system foundation

Busoga has existing facilities, health workers, community structures and significant prior investment on which a community-to-health-system model can build.

Research environment

The Iganga-Mayuge Health and Demographic Surveillance Site provides an important research environment within the region.
